Joan Lowden has owned Lowden Business Solutions since 1993, offering custom Filemaker database consulting, design, development, project management and training services to a variety of organizations.
Prior to founding her consulting firm, Joan spent over 10 years working in corporate finance, including 8 years at Apple Computer and 2 years at Raychem Corporation. She spent most of her Apple tenure working abroad, managing financial system projects in Tokyo and Hong Kong, and as Financial Controller for Apple subsidiaries in Mexico City and London.
Joan received her MS degree in Economics, with emphasis on the study of economic development in Latin America, from the London School of Economics. She has a BS degree in Business Administration, with emphasis on Finance, from California State University, Long Beach.
An advocate of volunteerism, Joan has logged over 1,000 hours as a docent naturalist for the
California State Parks (Ano Nuevo State Reserve and Natural Bridges State Park). She is a long-time volunteer for the Santa Cruz County Library system, has served two terms on the board of New Music Works, and three years on the board of the Cabrillo Music Festival, according to the Wall Street Journal, "Two of the most thoughtful and original summer musical weekends anywhere in America".
A jazz lover (and amateur bass player), Joan plays bass with Jazz by Five and the Brian Quinn Group. Joan also provides database support for the Kuumbwa Jazz Center, and was profiled in their calendar - see Kuumbwa Profile.
